Here we have a Superman action figure given to me by my daughter. He is part of the Fisher-Price toy line known as “Imaginext.”

Setup

Setup

I’m a big believer in simple setups.

The backdrop for this photo is a 12-inch square sheet of blue glitter paper held up by a clipboard. The backdrop is lit with a push-LED in a clear plastic cup on the left and a Joby LED on the right.

Superman is standing on a sheet of clear acrylic which sits atop an old black shelf. Our hero is lit with two incandescent push lights.

Not shown in the photo is a large circular diffuser positioned above everything seen here, which is diffusing some of the ambient light in the room.

Alternates

I started with Superman centered in the frame holding a gift in each hand. After some playing around I decided that I wanted to center on a single gift. This alternate composition is actually the first photo I took.

For the square Instagram version, I went back to a centered Superman again, still with just one gift.
